Want to know how to fix the Challenge Required error on Instagram?

With billions of people using Instagram on a daily basis, we’ve witnessed an ever-increasing number of people encountering the “challenge_required” error while trying to log in to their accounts.

It’s one of the most common errors people are facing these days.

And if you are getting it as well, I’ve got a solution to your problem.

Throughout this blog post, we’ll discuss:

What Does the Challenge Required Error Mean on Instagram?

If you’re getting this error, don’t worry – it’s just a security measure implemented by Instagram to protect your account and prevent spam, bots, and automation.

It doesn’t mean that your account is disabled or banned by Instagram.

It’s nothing to worry about.

Instagram has temporarily blocked your IP address as a result of unusual activity.

This error message will most probably appear when you try to log in to Instagram via web rather than the application. Or you’re probably logging in from an unrecognized device.

It’s just Instagram’s way of preventing the use of bots, automation, and spam and at the same time securing your account.

Great job, Instagram dev team! Kudos to you.

But – if you’re getting this error, you may be finding yourself frustrated.

Don’t worry – as always, I have a solution to this problem as well.

Let’s have a look.

How to Fix the Instagram “challenge_required” Error Message?

If you’re facing the “challenge_required” error while trying to log in to your account via another unrecognized device or web, you can try one of the following hot fixes.

Let’s look at each of these hot fixes one by one.

Solution I – Clear Instagram App Cache (Android) or Offload the App (iOS)

If you’re facing any kind of problem with Instagram, and let me repeat that – any problem, then the first thing I’d advise you to do is clear your app’s cache.

While doing this doesn’t really solve all technical issues, it solves most of them. You need to clear the app cache (Android) or offload the app (iPhone) on the device you’re facing this error.

After clearing your app cache, try to log in to Instagram with the other unrecognized device or web – where you were facing the “challenge_required” error.

How to Clear Instagram App Cache on Android?

If you’re facing the Challenge Required error, clear cache on the device you’re facing the error. You can do this by searching Instagram on your device. Tap and hold the icon – and you’ll see the “App Info” option. Click on it.

Depending on the device you’re using; you’ll be taken to Instagram App Info. For different Android devices, the way to visit Instagram App Info will be different. Click on “Storage & Cache.” Now, as you can see – there’s an option for clearing the cache. Select “Clear Cache” and you’re done.

Now – try logging in to Instagram.

If you’re using an iPhone, it’s important to note that you won’t have the option to clear your cache. Instead, you can try to select “Offload App” and reinstall the application again.

How to Offload Instagram on iPhone?

Step I – Visit your iPhone’s settings. Select “General.” Now, here you’ll be able to see the “iPhone Storage” option. Tap on it. Now, here you’ll see all the applications installed on your phone, which you can click on to Offload. We’ll select “Instagram.”

If you’re still getting this error, let’s try Hot Fix II.

Solution II – Sign Out of Third-Party Instagram Apps And/Or Services

Instagram takes its Community Guidelines & TOS very seriously and is laser-focused on keeping the platform clean. They simply hate any unofficial third-party Instagram apps and services.

So – if you have your Instagram account connected to any third-party Instagram app and/or service, maybe that’s the reason why you’re getting the “challenge_required” error message while trying to log in to your Instagram account.

To fix this error, it’s advisable to sign out of these apps or services. And once done, try checking again. If the issue still persists, let’s try Hot Fix III.

Solution III – Change Your Network from Wi-Fi to Mobile Data & Vice-Versa

Another reliable and proven method to fix the “challenge_required” Instagram error is changing your network. After all, it’s an issue with the IP address. If you’re currently on your Wi-Fi, then try switching to mobile data. However, if you’re currently getting this error while connected to your mobile data, maybe try switching to Wi-Fi.

If you’re using an Android device, swipe down from the top of your screen to switch the network. If you’re using an iPhone, swipe up from the bottom of your screen to switch the network.

And upon doing so, if the “challenge_required” error gets fixed, do let me know in the comment section.

If not, let’s try Hot Fix IV.

Solution IV – Uninstall & Reinstall Instagram After 24-48 Hours

Now, there’s an easy way to do this and then there’s a method where you need to be patient. But – first, let’s try the easy way.

Easy Way:

If you’re getting the “challenge_required” error message, try reinstalling Instagram.

Remove Instagram from your Android or iPhone device. And once done, visit Play or App Store and reinstall Instagram.

If the problem gets fixed, that’s good news.

Hard Way:

But if not, maybe the error is because Instagram has temporarily blocked your IP Address.

This block will be lifted in around 24-48 hours.

So, a good advice to fix the “challenge_required” error message is to uninstall Instagram and then wait for a time period of 24-48 hours.

The reason why I’m asking you to uninstall Instagram is that it’ll clear data and cache.

So – when you will reinstall Instagram after 24-48 hours, it’ll be a fresh start.

And if none of the hotfixes worked for you and didn’t solve your “challenge_required” error, it’s time to contact IG support.

Your last resort – contact IG support. While Meta (parent company of Instagram) does have a support number – +1 (650) 543-4800, if you dial it in, the automated bot will ask you to visit Instagram’s Help Center.

So, there’s no point in dialing that number.
