Your Instagram account is disabled.
Maybe, you posted something related to illegal activities, nudity, hate speech, or graphic violence.
Or maybe you violated one or more of Instagram’s other community guidelines.
When Instagram disables your account, they don’t provide a concrete reason. However, they do say that it was a result of violating Community Guidelines & TOS.
If you don’t do something about your disabled account, you may lose it permanently.
To help you recover your disabled Instagram account, I’ll be covering the following points throughout this blog post:
How to Recover Your Disabled Instagram Account?
If Instagram has disabled your account, there’s nothing much you can do about it. However, what you can do is – submit their “My Instagram Account Was Deactivated” form.
After you’ve done it – Instagram will probably ask you to click a picture of yourself with a handwritten code and share it with them. Now, from there onwards, you need to wait for their response via email once you have done the needful.
Let’s learn how you can submit the form and recover your disabled Instagram account.
- Head Over to the “My Instagram Account was Disabled” Form
- Submit Instagram’s “My Instagram Account was Disabled” Form
- Wait for Instagram’s First Email Where They’ll Ask You to Submit Your Selfie with a Code
- After Sending the Email, WAIT!
Head Over to the “My Instagram Account was Disabled” Form
To recover your disabled Instagram account, head over to Google and search “my Instagram account was disabled.”
Here are the results I got:

Now, as you can see there are two relevant results – the first result will redirect you to Instagram Help Center.
And the second will redirect you to Facebook Help Center.
Now, if your account was disabled due to repeat intellectual property violations and/or for sharing misleading or fraudulent content, then you need to visit the Instagram Help Center.
But if your account was disabled for not following Instagram’s Community Guidelines, select the second one which will take you to Facebook Help Center.
Click HERE to visit Instagram Help Center Form.
Click HERE to visit Facebook Help Center Form.
For anything else apart from this, I’d advise you to visit Instagram’s Help Center.
In this case, I’ll head over to Instagram’s Help Center Form.
Submit Instagram’s “My Instagram Account was Disabled” Form
Now, when you’re on Instagram’s Help Center Form page, you’ll see a checkbox stating “I understand and wish to continue.”
Now, here it’s mentioned that the form is in place for people’s whose Instagram accounts have been disabled as a result of repeat intellectual property violations or because of sharing misleading and fraudulent content on the platform.
So make sure that you’re submitting this form in case your account has been disabled as a result of repeat intellectual property violations and/or for sharing misleading or fraudulent content.
Otherwise, you may not get a response.
Select “I understand and wish to continue.”
And as you do, you’ll get this:

Instagram needs some information from you. Here’s what you need to submit:
- Your name (name and surname)
- Email address – Linked to Instagram Account
- Your Instagram username
- Explanation about why the content shouldn’t have been removed in the first place.
- Attachment, if any – in the form of JPG, PNG, PDF, TIFF & GIF
- Click on the Checkbox that says:

Submit your electronic signature.
Hit “Send.”
In the Explanation section, here’s a template you can follow:
“Hey!
Glad to be e-connecting with you.
To the best of my knowledge, I didn’t post any content that violates IG’s Community Guidelines. And my account has been disabled by mistake.
Can you please help me out?
Thanks!”
Now, it’s time to submit the form when you’re done filling it out. Select the “Send” button and move to the next step.
Wait for Instagram’s First Email Where They’ll Ask You to Submit Your Selfie with a Code
Within a few hours (if you’re lucky) or days, you’ll receive an email from Instagram which looks something like this:

Here, as you can see, they are asking you to reply to the email with a photo of yourself holding a handwritten copy of the code.
The code will be shared as well.
Also, they have mentioned some guidelines for the photo you need to click.
So, when you have received the code, we’d advise you to take a clean paper and use a marker to write down the code on it.
Click a selfie and send it in the form of a reply.
After Sending the Email, WAIT!
Now, the final step is to WAIT! There’s nothing more you need to do from your end. The Instagram team will review your case – which may take 3-5 days but may extend as well – depends on them.
Hence, it’s advisable to keep checking your email. And when the team verifies your case and find that you didn’t violate any Instagram guidelines, they’ll send an email like this:

Congratulations! You’ve successfully restored your account.
The Reason Behind Instagram Disabling Accounts
More and more users are violating Instagram’s community guidelines and TOS. And honestly, Instagram wants to keep the platform clean. It’s a multi-billion user platform after all.
There may be many reasons behind your account being disabled. Some activities that may get your account deactivated are:
- Posting content revolving around illegal activities
- Hate speech
- Sharing graphic violence posts
- And more!
Make sure that you keep yourself updated with TOS & Community Guidelines.
Also, note – if this happens again, there are chances that your account may permanently get deleted.
